SK Telecom Deploys 5G-PON in 10% of its Network

November 29, 2017

The fronthaul part of the network seems to be the latest focus for innovation in wireless networks, but 5G-PON isn’t the only option. Dali Wireless has developed a patented fronthaul interface that uses software-defined networking (SDN) to act as an intelligent aggregator-router. Dali’s interface sits between the BBUs and the radio heads on the tower allowing multiple operators to connect to multiple BBUs to create a multipoint-to-multipoint network. South Korean operator SK Telecom is using 5G passive optical networking (5G-PON) in about 10 percent of its network. The operator said it has deployed the technology in 227 central office...

Arqiva, Dali co-operate to upgrade Glasgow cellular network

November 29, 2017

UK communications infrastructure company Arqiva and wireless infrastructure provider Dali Wireless have completed a project in Glasgow city centre using Dali's digital Distributed Antenna System (DAS) to boost mobile coverage and capacity. Arqiva worked with Arqiva and systems integrator Cellular Asset Management to replace the analogue cellular network components with Dali's digital DAS to provide improved performance and support 2G, 3G, 4G and future 5G services. This is Dali's first deployment in the UK. Click here to read the full article

Eurobites: Ex-MTS Man Resurfaces at Rival VEON

November 29, 2017

UK mobile infrastructure player Arqiva has teamed up with fronthaul specialist Dali Wireless Inc. to improve mobile coverage and capacity in Glasgow's city center. Analog components on the existing network were replaced by Dali's digital distributed antenna system (DAS) to support 2G, 3G and 4G services -- as well as 5G services, when they arrive. System integrator Cellular Asset Management also played a part in the project. Earlier this month Arqiva pulled the plug on a planned IPO, citing market uncertainty for its decision. Arqiva and Dali Wireless Improve Mobile Coverage in Glasgow City Centre

November 28, 2017

Wireless infrastructure builder Arqiva has joined with Dali Wireless and Cellular Asset Management to improve Mobile coverage and capacity around Glasgow city centre (Scotland, UK) by harnessing a new digital Distributed Antenna System (DAS), which will also support future 5G rollouts. The work, which has just completed, essentially saw the group upgrade their existing network by replacing the analogue components with Dali’s digital DAS (their first deployment in the UK), which they say should provide “superior performance” (supporting 2G, 3G, 4G and future 5G services). The new DAS is also scalable so that it can be used in all...

Dali Wireless Uses SDN to Virtualize the Fronthaul

October 31, 2017

It’s no secret that mobile operators are exploring virtualizing the radio access network (vRAN) to cut costs and make their networks more efficient. Dali Wireless believes it can take that a step further by streamlining the fronthaul network. Fronthaul is the connection from the base station baseband processing units (BBUs) to the remote radio heads on the tower. Dali Wireless was founded in 2006 and originally intended to focus on the power amplifier market. But founders Albert Lee and Shawn Stapleton turned the company’s focus to the radio access network in...

Melbourne Metro Rolls Out P25 DAS System in Railway Stations

October 17, 2017

VicTrack and Dali Wireless announced the deployment of a new digital public-safety communications system for the protective services officers (PSO) working at selected Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM) railway stations in Australia. VicTrack, which owns the state’s transport infrastructure and assets, selected infrastructure provider Dali Wireless to design and deploy a Project 25 (P25) Phases 1 and 2 public-safety distributed antenna system (DAS) for railway stations with known black spots. The new network provides coverage for nine PSO surveillance offices and the surrounding stations using its digital DAS technology. Click to read the...

The Evolution of Public Safety: FirstNet and LTE

August 29, 2017

With AT&T’s construction of a nationwide public safety broadband network on behalf of the First Responder Network Authority (FirstNet), everyone in the United States will have network availability, according to Christopher Schenck, director of legal for Dali Wireless. The Long Term Evolution (LTE) high-speed wireless data network will use Band 14 700-MHz radio-frequency spectrum for a subscriber-based system. “Any state can opt into it or opt out of it,” Schenck said. “But states that opt out have to offer a state network compatible with the nationwide network.” Click here to read the...
