#WirelessWednesday – In high rise buildings, the neighbor list changes as users go up and down within the building. Isn’t keeping a complete and accurate neighbor list a challenge with dynamic capacity allocation?

July 15, 2015

In high-rise buildings, users inside the building should always be served by the signal sources inside the building. Defining a large set of neighbor cells in various heights of the building is not helpful. This may then lead to handovers to some exotic external cells, which are not available deep inside the building. This can result in dropped calls when users move away from the windows.

Preferably, the neighbor list is reduced strictly to only those cells which serve the interior of the building. Those cells serving the building’s entry/exit area (typically on the ground floor) shall include only the top-3 most frequently used external neighbor cells on the neighbor list. This will enable a well-coordinated handover to the outdoor cells serving the perimeter of the building.
