#WirelessWednesday – Are the capacity allocation changes synchronized with the NMS for the individual operator’s macro cells? Would this have an effect on the neighbor lists and other aspects?

July 8, 2015

The changes are synchronized with the RAN configuration. This happens normally as part of the RAN planning when the parameters for the cells are defined and downloaded. Depending on the situation, there might or might not have an impact on the neighbor lists.  For an indoor situation (ex. an office high-rise building), the only relevant neighbour cell that will interact with the macro cell is most likely the ground floor where users are entering or leaving the building. Therefore, if an operator reconfigures the capacity among the different floors within the building, there shouldn’t be any interaction with the configuration of the macro RAN. If dynamic capacity allocation is applied to a stadium, there would be interaction with the surrounding macro cells, or even the micro layer if one exists.  In this case, all the cells are configured with all the possible neighbors that are needed in different capacity allocation scenarios. Therefore, the neighbors are once and forever configured to accommodate all anticipated configurations of cells, as part of the SDN Radio Router distribution network.
