Q&A: The Evolution of Wireless Webinar #PublicSafety
During our latest webinar, “The Evolution of Wireless – Are You Ready?” we received many great questions. In the upcoming weeks, we will be sharing the questions and answers in this latest blog series #TheEvolutionOfWireless. To start off, here is the first Q&A:
Q. Do you anticipate that the public safety network will migrate to a C-RAN architecture and if so what is their timing for doing so?
A. C-RAN can be referred to as Cloud RAN or centralized RAN. In the case of public safety, centralized RAN will probably never happen due to security concerns surrounding communications in public safety. Dali is working on some innovative topologies centered on redundancy and survivability in enterprise public safety but we do not see Cloud RAN playing a major role in public safety networks. Regarding the time-frame, the public safety community is conservative, and rightly so, given the mission critical nature of many of their day to day tasks. We are estimating that Virtual RAN will be in place by 2025, and this will happen with FirstNet. However we will really need to wait and see.
