Q. Where do you see the role for DAS in the outdoor space versus small cell deployments?
A. We see small cells as complimentary to a DAS where a small cell is defined as a low power base station with a protocol stack supporting full capacity LTE. It is not a single carrier low power radio, nor is it femto cell that requires an overlay on the RAN network. Under this definition, a small cell can be combined with a digital DAS to deliver pinpoint coverage and capacity where needed. As we migrate to virtual RAN and the possibility of moving intelligence to the edge, we will probably see the convergence DAS and small cell.
