#InbuildingWireless – Engaging mobile operators and their critical role

March 3, 2016

In these past weeks we have discussed common errors to avoid when implementing an in-building wireless system. For last week’s #InbuildingWireless blog post we discussed the fourth most common error, which was not considering public safety in-building coverage.

For the final post of this blog series, we will discuss Error #5: Not engaging mobile operators early enough in the process.

Mobile operators have invested billions of dollars to build out their network to give their users the best mobile experience. If the in-building wireless system is aimed at improving users’ wireless experience, licensed frequencies from the mobile operators are used. Therefore, engaging mobile operators early in the process could ensure a smooth roll-out of a new or improved in-building wireless system.

Also, mobile operators have their own set of standards and processes that must be followed. In addition, often times, the design needs to be approved to ensure that the in-building wireless system does not interfere with the overall network.

It is recommended that enterprises involve mobile operators in the planning process to ensure that the in-building wireless system does not conflict with the standards and processes of the overall network.

As this series concludes, we hope readers have expanded their knowledge in the best practices for how to successfully implement an in-building wireless system. The progression of events is multifaceted and best tackled in phases. From initial site survey and project design, to implementation and post-deployment maintenance. Planning is a critical phase and being aware of potential deployment errors will help ensure a successful deployment of an in-building wireless system.

As this series wraps up, we will move onto a new series where we discuss popular topics in wireless for healthcare facilities and hospitals. Stay tuned for #WirelessHealthcareWednesday! To read previous blog posts, click here.
