#WirelessWednesday – With dynamic capacity allocation, is there a potential to cause interruption to services? For example, dropped calls.

Sectors (ie. cells with their baseband and radio resources) aren’t abruptly cut off like an on or off switch but rather re-allocated thus shifting capacity gracefully between different coverage areas. Let’s consider a multi-facility building with offices, restaurants and shops. Sector 1 serves the offices and sector 2 serves the restaurants and shops during the day time. During the evening, part of sector 1’s resources are allocated to the restaurants and shops but part of the capacity resources still remain at the offices without any interruption to services. Therefore, during the evening, the restaurants and shops have part of the sector 1 resources and the entire sector 2 resources to accommodate the increased capacity requirements.
